In 1882 the undeveloped property from 30th to 31st street on the South Side was purchased by Thomas Coffin & Co. a clay pot manufacturing company founded in 1860.The company played a critical role in the development of South Side’s glass making industry in the 1800’s. The cost of the land was $7000.00 or 18 ¢ a square ft. In 1903 the Dixon Woods Co. purchased the property and expaned there product line to include furnace brick for the mills . In 1937 the property with 4 large buildings was sold to the Kleber Trunk Co. a manufacturer of luggage & foot lockers, many of which were purchased by the military for use in WW II. The Kleber Co. remained in business until 1964 when they sold the complex of buildings which has grown to nearly 85000 Sq ft. to the SILVESTRI BROS. PLASTER CAST CO. The statuary company manufactured plaster cast novelty items. (And example of which is shown “ Laughing Louie”)… many of there products where sold to theme parks and carnivals across the United States. In 1989 J Verno Studios, Impressions Photo INC. purchased the properties. . The buildings are used in the production of Retail catalogs as well as TV & Movie production . Over the past 30 yrs J. has transformed the interior into a unique venue still used for productions of all types. The unassuming exterior of 3030 Jane opens to a building full of sets and backgrounds created for use in the production of catalogs and commercials. The 30,000 square foot building at 3030Jane Street was truly a labor of love for J. & his family . Still today J & Nancy Verno welcome there clients and take pride in the production facility.
